"Chasdecha" is the Hebrew word translated into the English "lovingkindness", or "steadfast love", or "unfailing love" in this particular verse.

"Chasdecha" is not just one of the character traits that our God has in His repertoire of character traits. It is the very essence of who He is: lovingly kind, steadfastly and unfailingly loving.

God's kindness, His good-heartedness, is infused with His love - lovingkindness is His faithful love in action, expressed in His covenant relationship with Israel.

God's love is steadfast and sure, and will never let us go - though we prove to be faithless and unfaithful, God is forever faithful.

God's love is unfailing and unending, unconditional, constant and persistent - "I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.", He declared to His people through His prophet Jeremiah (31:3).

When we try to estimate the depth and the persistence of God's loving-kindness and mercy, we must first remember his passion for righteousness. His passion for righteousness is so strong that he could not be more insistent in his demand for it, but God's persistent love for his people is more insistent still. So when we ask Him to show us His lovingkindness, will He do so? Without a doubt. "Chasdecha" is His very essence.

The word "salvation" in this verse comes from the Hebrew root "yesha", which means "liberty", "deliverance", "welfare" and "prosperity". From this root word in Hebrew also comes the greatest name ever known to humankind: "Yeshua" - or in English, JESUS.

When we ask God to grant us His salvation, will He do so? Without a doubt. The name of His Son Jesus, Yeshua, speaks to the very reason for His leaving heaven for a time and coming down to earth: to save His people from their sins - to be their salvation.

"Chasdecha" - "Yesha": who God the Lord, in His very essence, is. A God of eternally loving and faithful kindness - a God of salvation and deliverance.

Without a doubt we can count on Him, depend on Him, trust Him to be true to His words and to who He is.
