Reflections For Living In Times of Covid19 - Psalm 85:1

Reflections For Living In Times of Covid19 - Psalm 85:1

Monday May 4, 2020

In these days (weeks... months...) of almost complete global quarantine because of the Covid-19 pandemic, surely many of us have felt ourselves held captive. Jailed within the four walls of our houses. Imprisoned in our anxieties for the present and in our fears for the future. Enslaved to our thoughts of shock and bewilderment, and to our feelings of grief and hopelessness as we find ourselves living a life we never imagined to live.

What will I do to assure my family's livelihood, today and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow? How can I continue to live in harmony and peace with the same people I have been seeing 24/7 for the past many weeks? How must I reinvent myself in every area of my life so that I will be able to survive in a future that is still completely uncertain?

The first words from Psalm 85 speak promises of tranquility and well-being to our lives. God Himself has shown, does show and will continue to show favour -- that is, His goodness and kindness and His blessings -- to us, His creation, His children. He Himself will restore our captivity, will bring us out into spacious places and will give us freedom once again.

When? We do not know. How? We also do not know. But that He will do so at some time and in some way, is a surety. Because He has said so. So we can rest in the absolute truth and certainty of His words to us.
